Our love of rice is not a secret; we haven’t exactly been shy about it, today though I want to talk about the nuances of rice. Have you ever noticed the distinctions in rice and by that, I don’t mean short vs. long or brown vs. white. Not all rice is the same every variety has its own subtle flavor, aroma and texture.

Take good jasmine rice for instance. Have you ever opened a jar of jasmine rice and simply stopped in your tracks to enjoy the bouquet of toasted butter drifting up to you? No, then you have truly been missing out.

*This is a sponsored post but all opinions and statements are my own* [print_this] Mushroom Parmesan RiceServes 4 Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons shallots, chopped

1 cup RiceSelect Jasmati rice

2 cups chicken broth

1/3 cup dry white wine

1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions: In a medium sauce pan over medium high heat add the olive oil, shallots and cook until soft approx. 4-5 minutes.

Add rice and cook, stirring until the rice just starts to brown approx. 3 minutes.

Add the chicken broth, wine and mushrooms.

Cover, lower the heat to a simmer and cook for approx.12-15 minutes or until all of the broth has been absorbed.

Add butter and Parmesan.

Serve with baked chicken, scallops or a nice filet and enjoy! Shari [/print_this]

“How do you spice up your family meals with rice?” – I am NEW to cooking with ‘REAL’ Rice. I was raised on Minute Rice (Instant). I am learning to cook rice and have little experience with different types of real rice. I had my first risotto rice made by my son last June 2012. I love mushrooms… love Parmesan cheese… PLUS rice? … SCORE! Can’t wait to try this recipe…

My kids enjoy when I make it with 2 kinds of cheese. I have mixed with mushrooms for my wife and I but the kids do not like mushrooms. Add in some cilantro with salsa into rice for Mexican fajita night is great as well.

I am from Louisiana and we always cook with “real” rice. I have about 5 different varieties at any given time (Basmanti, Jasmine, Carolina, Brown etc). I serve rice four nights out of seven at least.

Tomorrow, chicken curry with the jasmine rice. I always make the rice for curry by cooking the dry rice in about a teaspoon of coconut oil for a bit while I am boiling water in the tea kettle (maybe 3 minutes, some of the grains will become opaque – always stir the entire time!) then adding the water and a small amount of apple cider vinegar. it makes the most lovely rice.

I made this dish tonight and it was fabulous! It was like a creamy risotto with tons of flavor. I sautéed small pieces of asparagus on the side and added it when I added the mushrooms. Yum!!!! Thank you!

I am vegan and often make a bug batch of brown rice and lentils on sundays. During the week i can make quick tacos or add a glob of hummus to make a quick veggie burger patty! I love the bbq rice balls at my local japanese restaurant too.

I try to Spice up my dishes with rice, and different spices. It is amazing how much different a dish tastes when it is seasoned slightly differently. My mother in law seasons everything with dill (we joke that she uses it as sprinkles on ice cream…). One night we could have rice with rosemary, and the next basil!

Lots of crisp, fresh vegetables (a combo of cauliflower, broccoli and green beans is perfect – toss in some red bell pepper for more color) and an extra dash (or six) of ground cayenne pepper or dry mustard for a kick.

We frequently eat rice in my house so I make lots of yummy rice recipes. I usually make stir fried rice for my family and friends and they love it when I add chicken, shrimp, veggies such as snap peas, carrots, onions, and even corn into the rice. I also add some herbs like cilantro and a little lime juice.

I love to cook with rice. I’m from down south so I really know how. I lie how it absorbs the flavor of other things from sea food to vegetables. I love that Texmati rice stuff!!

We tend to spice up with Indian meals or sometimes a stir fry :) we love this brand of rice so much!

I would use the riceselect to spice up my life with the texmati and kasmati, they would be nice additions to our current meal menus!
