Receiving Christmas cards is such a joy. The anticipation of discovering what creative treat awaits inside each envelope is part of the holiday magic. Yet my dilemma has always been finding the best place to display our cards. I have tried ribbon down the bookcase but I left behind tape marks. That is why this year I got a little creative.
Fortunately, I am big on re-purposing so when I stumbled upon a tossed out wood framed screen I knew it would eventually find a nifty use in our home. One man’s trash is another girl’s treasure. Let me walk you through its transformation…
I decided to spray paint the metal screen gold to give it some pizazz. If you are going to paint yours be sure to use painters tape around the frame.
Be sure when you are staining wood to apply with (along) the grain of the wood. Allow the stain to dry between coats.
Voila! A cute rustic screened frame to showcase all of our friends and families beautiful Christmas cards.
How did I hang the shells? Floral wire twisted into a tiny hook that is it. If you don’t have floral wire, ornament hooks will work as well. To hold the cards in place I used floral pins but you could use pushpins or even paperclips, colored ones would look especially cute.
If you want to add a little coastal flair to your holiday decor as well but you don’t have a couple of beach boys who come home with their pockets full of seashells you should be able to find bags of seashells at your local hobby/art store with pre-drilled holes. Sometimes you can even find strands of them in home decor stores.
Also if you can not find a wood framed screen don’t be afraid to use a modern metal framed screen. Paint the frame a fun pop color! Make sure to use the appropriate paint for metal.
I’m off to play with more coastal holiday fun, chat with y’all soon.
